Nice picks Pete. Granted, I'm not too knowledgeable on New Wave but 'Burning Ambition' is a superb film that definitely deserves a decent release.
I'm with you too on 'In The Line of Duty 4', that and 'Royal Warriors' are my faves of the series.

I gotta admit as much as I love my Traditional movies I also like to mix it with my Newwave.
A few more that spring to mind are:

Dragon Family
Outlaw Brothers
Saviour of the Soul

Hell I have a loads of Newwave stuff... I love it!|:o

That's crazy talk IFM! lol

I'm a big fan of period new waves films and (although I might get lynched and banned from the board for my heresy) I like new wave wirework fighting as much if not more than older style fighting. I'm mainly talking about wuxia really but I'd say the speed and style of new wave fighting is more consistant with what I would imagine in my head when reading Jin Yong or Gu Long than the choreo in older films - It's not supposed to be based in reality! Don't get me wrong, I love shapes and older style swordplay etc but unless it's done brilliantly it can look clunky and just as fake as wirework.

Having said that though wirework in films that are supposed to be based in reality like OUTIC gets on me nerves a bit.

I'm strictly a period costume film man, I really should broaden me horizons and search out a bit of yukiro oshima and moon lee like ECC says, they look awesome on the clips I've seen. What's their best films?

Postby dassenach » Fri Jul 16, 2010 1:43 am

Hi - I'm obligated to add to this list - all Donnie Yen movies by the way because he's the IT boy right now:

SPL (Sha Po Long, released as Killzone) - Yen vs. Wu Jing alley fight, Yen vs. Sammo Hung

Dragon Tiger Gate

Flashpoint (AKA City with No Mercy) - Hwah! Yen vs. Collin Chou end fight, breathtaking!

Ip Man - Yen vs. 10 karatekas. Near perfect movie, a masterpiece

Ip Man 2 - Yen vs. Sammo Hung table fight, badass! Sammo can still move, man!
