Do the Girls like old school kung fu?

Postby weier78 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 10:28 am

I love my wife, and we have similar movie interests. But when it comes kung fu movies she doesn't understand the old school. She likes the recent releases, the big stars like Bruce, Sammo, Jet and Jackie. But if you say Ti Lung, Jimmy Wang Yu and Wilson Tong, she does not get these guys movies.

Hey Weier78! I think we have the same wife LOL. My wife likes JC and in particular Jack Long, especially in the movie 7 Grandmasters.

Hey samtheseed, my mrs finds 7 grandmasters too silly and confusing. But I love that movie, it was like in the first five videos I ever rented, back in the day.

It seems that you don't have the good wifes, guys! (smiles).

I'm a female, and I'm fond of all the old school kung fu movies, from the Shaw Brothers to the less known in my country such as Hong Hoi, or Ang Fung..., and, even if I appreciate Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Jet Li, what I don't appreciate, particularly in the recent movies, it's the too obvious use of the special effects, which leads to unbelievable fights, such as it was the case in Flying swords of Dragon Gate, for instance (but I loved the movie, though)...

I didn't think most people cared or know what Old School Kung Fu Films regardless of gender but yes when you narrow it down it's more of a male thing(jokingly I said to my best friend when I told him to watch THE YOUNG MASTER cos it has a pretty long end fight so I thought that would test to see how much action he could stand when he liked it I said I knew he had balls cos of that)

When it comes to my parents my Mum will watch old school where as my Dad don't he more into new wave 80's especially with car chase but then again it is specially picked films rather than any Old Kung Fu.

When it comes to forums only I think I've only come across about 4 or 5 females & outside the forums on the internet 1 or 2.

I am a female and I love old school Kung FU movies. I will admit that I watch mosely Shaw br others Movies but I like other as well. I am a new member here on this forum but I feel welcome. I have other friends both male and female who love old school movies. I also have some friends who only watch new wave movies. I rather watch a Ti Lung movie than a Jackie Chan movie.

Well said, unless the Jackie Chan's movie is an old one such as The killer meteors or The bodyguards (I'm not sure it's the right title)orTo kill with intrigue...

@SaritaLinda18 and @hawk4 - glad to see that it is not just the guys loving the old kung fu feeling.

Well the best gift I gave was to my mother-inlaw, boxset of Bruce Lee movies. Am I good or what. She loved it.
