name movies heroic bloodshed before 1986

Postby rarebastard » Sun Jul 29, 2007 11:29 pm

i thought this might be a fun little thread seeing how that movie started the bullet ballet craze in HK in the mid 80's. what about the other films it over shadows? maybe they don't shower the screen with bullets, they might be more low key and not as flashy but none the less thet deserve attention. i will offer one and give the other members their chance to offer some of their favorites.
my humble offering COOLIE KILLER

I really need to back up your thread here RB and make my contribution which has to be.....Simon Yam's INFORMER 1981!!!

I think its difficult the give much options mind you RB simply because there's not much Gunplay movies to compare with a 1986 classic such as Better Tomorrow...before 1986 it was the shapes era and gunplay more or less just came into play IMO!!!

Why not say the best of the best Bullet Ballat of the last 20 years them we would all find good options I think....Just a thought my friend.:)

cops and robbers what can i say. i found this film by accident in the markets. it had no cover art and the title was writen in chinese but i had a crazy feeling that the movie would interest me. while its no john woo 300 bullets a minute shot up. its one of those films that came at a cycle were HK cinema was reinventing itself with films like gun is law, the servant and the beasts. so it has that late 70's early 80's gritty feel to it. i like it a bit more than gun is law but less than hired guns just to give you an idea where it fits in. only because kao feis performance put hired guns over the top. still i love these early examples of crime film because they foreshadow the genre that would explode world wide later on under john woos direction. most "kung fu fans" over looked most of HK cinema titles such as these but do not sleep on any of these films if you get the chance to pick one up.
