It's less expensive to film in Canada. I've read that film shoots can be 45 to 50 percent cheaper.

A lot of tv shows are filmed in Canada too. Warner Bros filmed all four seasons of 'Kung Fu: The Legend Continues' in Toronto from '92-'96. Also, the 'Black Sash' tv show (which aired in 2003) was filmed in Vancouver.

As you will know, the Canadian locations usually double for unspecified US locales.
