BLAXPLOITATION

Postby pollypolly » Fri Dec 22, 2006 2:51 pm

I agree that TRUCK TURNER is a classic film and pretty under rated I'd say. Yaphet Kotto is a legend my eyes and he's great as the villain in that film.

Speaking of which, my favourite Blaxploitation film of ALL TIME is easily 'ACROSS 110TH STREET' - also starring Yaphet Kotto, alongside Anthony Quinn and Antonio 'Huggy Bear' Fargas. It's a must see IMO if you like Blaxploitation.

A few other favourites of mine are:

COFFY. 1973
(Pam Grier letting off some serious buck shots to the head!)

GORDON'S WAR. 1973
(Tough, gritty action with four Vietnam buddies going to war against the local Drug kingpins)

THREE TOUGH GUYS. 1974
(Another Isaac Hayes flick starring alongside Fred Williamson and Lino Ventura. Hayes scored this one too).

COOLEY HIGH. 1975
(Classic 'buddy' film. In turns both funny and tragic).

'Three the Hard Way' is worth checking out. It stars Jim Kelly, Jim Brown and Fred Williamson. The fight scenes were choreographed by David Chow.

No problem Whirlwind. I only recently purchased 'Three the Hard Way' on dvd. I was interested in the David Chow connection and decided to buy it.

Yeah, that's a very un-PC title, I've been meaning to pick that film up.

Here's another one that caused a bit of a stir back in the old pre-cert days.

Ron Van Clief was originally offered the role but turned it down. Afterwhich, he recommended Jim Kelly for the part. Kelly made the film for half the salary Ron was offered.

Blimey, yeah I remember 'Posse'. Being a Hip Hop fan I was interested because Big Daddy Kane was in it. It had quite a good cast to be honest.
